I’ve lived in Leeds (well just outside) for over 15 years and I’ve never set foot in The Leeds Library…until last night. But this is no ordinary council run public library, no siree. It was founded in 1768 as a proprietary subscription library and is now the oldest surviving example of this sort of library in the British Isles. And it’s not to be confused with the Leeds Central Library, your a-typical library up on the Headrow (for those of you who know Leeds). Continue reading
