WWW Wednesdays (18 May 2022)! What are you reading this week? #WWWWednesdays

Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words, the revamped take on of the meme hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm. It’s open for anyone to join in and is a great way to share what you’ve been reading!

The Three Ws are:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What am I currently reading?

I’ve headed back to Stoke On Trent for my current read to be reunited with Allie Shenton, the character who introduced me to the writings of Mel Sherratt over 7 years ago! I’ve not got far as I only started yesterday and there was a small matter of a tense second leg play-off distracting me… Here’s the blurb:

Don’t ever trust your friends.

Could you stay quiet about a murder? Killed on his way home from a night out, Kit Harper had lots of secrets. At the opposite end of the city, another man is found smothered in his bed. Jack Fletcher had secrets too.

A photo of a young woman reveals a clue and with dual cases to run, Detective Allie Shenton and her team are pushed to their limits. As attacks on a close group of friends continue, a link to a cold case twenty years ago is unveiled.

Can Allie figure out who is telling the truth about what happened on that fateful night? And who is lying through their teeth, to get away with murder?

Set within the gritty streets of Stoke-on-Trent, this fast-paced British detective novel is a dark murder mystery with an emotional pull.

Hidden Secrets is the fifth novel in the Allie Shenton series of crime thrillers from the million selling British author, Mel Sherratt, and perfect for fans of Helen Durrant, DS Butler, LJ Ross, Angela Marsons, Joy Ellis, Rachel McClean, Caroline Mitchell and Meg Jolly.

What have I recently finished reading?

I finished off The Silent Brother over the weekend, enjoying a bit of sunshine. I then ticked off two reads from my Netgalley shelf; My Lovely Wife I’ve had on there for a while (it’s twisted) and then a new addition, The New Doctor At Peony Practice, the latest in the Love Heart Lane series (out the 30th).

What am I reading next?!?

I am finally reading Jack Jordan’s Do No Harm. I’ve been hearing about this since July last year and now my time has come 🎉🎉 You can find out what I think on June 1st as I join the blog tour!

So guys, what have you been reading??

  1. I’ve got The New Doctor at Peony Practice, too, but having only read Heartcross Castle in the series, I decided to download ALL the others and read them first … which I haven’t done yet, of course!

On to today: I’m currently reading Snow Widows by Katherine MacInnes, the story of the women left behind by the men of Scott’s tragic expedition to the South Pole, which is detailed and fairly grim at times reading for a Shiny New Books review, and Larry McMutry’s Desert Rose, a bittersweet novel about a Las Vegas showgirl and her terrible daughter, for my Larry McMurtry Project. Up next, one of two British Library Women Writers reprints and a bit of The Virago Book of Women Travellers.

    • Brilliantly twisted. Struggling to review it as the blurb is so short and doesn’t give anything away so I don’t want to include anything that’s a spoiler!! x
