A Life For A Life by Carol Wyer @CarolEWyer @AmazonPub @ZooloosBT #blogtour #bookreview

Happy Thursday everyone! I’m thrilled to be hosting the blog tour for Carol Wyer’s A Life For A Life, the third Kate Young novel.

Massive thank you to Zoë O’Farrell of Zooloo’s Book Tours for inviting me to join the blog tour and for my advanced e-copy of A Life For A Life.

The Blurb

Nobody can get into the mind of an erratic killer—except an unpredictable detective.

When a young man is found lying on a station platform with a hole in his head, DI Kate Young is called in to investigate the grisly murder. But the killing is no one-off. As bodies start to pile up, she is faced with what might be an impossible task—to hunt down a ruthless killer on a seemingly random rampage.

Meanwhile, Kate has her own demons to battle as she struggles to come to terms with her husband’s death. And she is hell-bent on exposing corruption within the force and bringing Superintendent John Dickson to justice. But with the trail of deception running deeper—and closer to home—than she could ever have imagined, she no longer knows who she can trust.

With her grip on reality slipping, Kate realises that maybe she and the killer are not so different after all. But time is running out and Kate is low on options. Can she catch the killer before she loses everything?

What Did I Think?

When it comes to crime thrillers, I expect the opening to be gruesome or intriguing, not heartbreaking and shocking as I found the opener to A Life For A Life. I sat stunned at the end of the prologue – I even had to reread the last few paragraphs just to make sure that I’d read what I thought I had. What on earth what was in store for me?!?

Fast forward a page to chapter 1 and Kate enters, phew I was reading the right book 😂 And what follows I can only describe as brutal. Brutal executions of unconnected people. What the hell is going on?? Just what the hell!!? Is this the most unhinged killer I’ve met? The more I got to know them the more I was unnerved by their logic!

“It was down to fate who lived and who died.”

Alongside this intense and frustrating investigation, Kate is continuing her personal crusade to get justice for those who had suffered at the hands of Dickson. And the more she looks, the wider his net appears to have stretched. After two previous books in this series, I was invested in Kate’s work, desperate for her to get the answers she needs for closure and justice. Would she get them? 🤐🤐 You’ll have to read A Life For A Life to find out!

I seriously enjoyed following Kate and the team as they’ve found their niche corner of their constabulary despite the obstacles put in their way. Kate’s tenacity has driven them through some horrific and difficult cases and the investigation in A Life For A Life. Wyer has created one hell of a shocking serial killer with no pattern or connection between victims. She’s created what seems to be the unsolvable case. I loved the book! Bloody brilliant!!

  1. Oh wow…wow…wow! You have rendered me speechless with your outstanding review. Claire, I honestly can’t thank you enough for it, for taking part in the book tour and for making me feel on top of the world, even before I’ve had my first cup of tea of the day! I have bookmarked this page to return to on those days when I’m struggling to find the right words or feeling a little defeated because I know it will pick me up no end. Hugest of sincere thanks. XOXO
