Whoop whoop! It’s the weekend!! Do you need a new read to keep you entertained? Well I’m sharing my thoughts of M. A. Comley’s latest psychological thriller She’s Gone.
Massive thanks to Mel Comley for my advanced e-copy of She’s Gone. I also preordered a copy from Amazon.
From NY Times bestselling author of the Justice series, I Know The Truth, and the DI Sara Ramsey Detective series who has sold over three million copies worldwide comes a new psychological thriller.
One second she was there, the next… she was gone!
After months of fighting the court system to see five-year-old Adele, Martin Jenkins finally has his daughter back. It’s only for a week’s holiday, but he’ll take that to have her near him once more.
Keeping three children under the age of eight amused is no mean feat. Whilst Martin’s girlfriend, Louise, is looking after her daughter and Adele, Martin is playing football with her son close by. Excitement fills the air at the local beauty spot in the beautiful Lake District until a chilling scream rocks Martin’s world.
The police, Mountain Rescue and other volunteers are brought in to help with the search but Martin’s life is ripped to shreds that day. The day his daughter is declared missing.
What Did I Think?
Divorce is never easy particularly when kids are involved. Two people who have brought new life into the world ending up with verbal hands round each other’s necks with their children stuck in the middle. So I can imagine Martin’s sheer joy when he can finally spend time with his daughter and the new family he has chosen to spend time with.
I’ll admit, I didn’t take to Adele particularly. She seemed a tad spoilt and when she disappeared, I thought she’d run off for attention and in a warped kind of way was hoping she’d get her parents back together. But the longer she was gone, I realised this was a bit more sinister than that! I had fear for this little girl, what had happened to her? How could she just vanish?
The book is packed with emotion. It leapt off the electronic pages at me and pulled all those parental strings in me. The guilt, the anger, the frustration. Comley packs an emotional punch throughout her writing and She’s Gone is no different. I went on a rollercoaster of an emotional journey.
She’s Gone is a pacey read and I was hooked throughout. I devoured this in two sittings, glued to my kindle. Despite Martin being an absolute arse to the woman he supposedly loves, no parent should be left in the dark as to what’s happened to their missing offspring. I really wanted a happy ending to this heartbreaking (for me as a parent) thriller, but did I get it?? 🤐🤐🤐
