Happy “hump” day everyone!!! Yes we’re half way through the week and have I got a treat for you today! I’m thrilled to be sharing a chilling extract from M L Rayner’s Echoes Of Home with you as part of the blog tour.
Massive thanks to Zoe O’Farrell for inviting me to join the blog tour and to Question Mark Press for the extract.
After accepting a generous opportunity to start afresh, Leslie Wills, a young man from Stoke-on-Trent, eagerly begins his long-distance journey to the Scottish Highlands of Elphin, a settled village that sits huddled amongst the dominating mountains. Its people are welcoming, and the beauty of the land is great. But deep within its Highland paths, a location rests hidden from the public’s eye. A location which entices you to learn the truth of its troubled past. But once you bear witness to its sights and sounds, its presences will never allow you to forget.
Uncover the truth, Journeying back to a forgotten time. With a plot full of secrets and suspicion that will leave you longing for answers.
The silence now became somewhat deafening. I waited, wondering if I’d in fact gone completely insane. Whether I really did hear a voice whisper my name was unclear at this precise moment. Yet, it seemed so real.
Frozen to the floor, I attempted to call out to whomever may have been standing in the room, although nothing vocalised. My voice had run away, leaving my terrified body behind. The only way of finding out who lurked inside the house was now left to actions alone.
Trembling on the spot, taking several deep breaths in order to calm my nerves, I placed my hesitant hand on the doorknob and slowly pushed forward. It remained unclear at first if anyone was present at all, but once the doorway was cleared, my sight became accustomed to the dim light. A tall figure stood in a long dark coat in the corner, its back facing me.
I was truly terrified to see that the figure did not react upon my entry.
I managed to gather words, demanding that the figure identified itself immediately. “Who the hell are you? How did you get in here?” My tone was more cowardly than intended.
The figure slowly turned around and looked straight at me, his saddened eyes gleaming through the darkness. I dropped to my knees instantly with disbelief and heartache. I shut my eyes tightly, pleading to awaken from what felt to be a rather vivid dream.
