Nine Elms by Robert Bryndza @RobertBryndza @BooksSphere #bookreview #NineElms

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I’m sharing my thoughts on Nine Elms the first in the Kate Marshall series from Robert Bryndza.

Massive thank you to Noelle Holten for giving me her advanced copy of Nine Elms from Harrogate 19 and I also bought myself an e-copy from Amazon.

The Blurb

From the breakthrough international bestselling author of The Girl in the Ice, a breathtaking, page-turning novel about a disgraced female detective’s fight for redemption. And survival.

Kate Marshall was a promising young police detective when she caught the notorious Nine Elms serial killer. But her greatest victory suddenly became a nightmare.

Fifteen years after those catastrophic, career-ending events, a copycat killer has taken up the Nine Elms mantle, continuing the ghastly work of his idol.

Enlisting her brilliant research assistant, Tristan Harper, Kate draws on her prodigious and long-neglected skills as an investigator to catch a new monster. But there’s much more than her reputation on the line: Kate was the original killer’s intended fifth victim . . . and his successor means to finish the job.

What Did I Think?

I love Robert Bryndza’s books. I’ve read all the Erika Foster books and most of his non-crime books but I was a little late to the Kate Marshall party. But with the second in the series due out before the end of the year, I knew I had to introduce myself to Kate.

I’m not sure how to review this book without spoiling most of the book. It’s in two parts with the first part quite short but shocking and that’s all I’m going to say about that bit. Fast forward 15 years and Kate has stepped out of the regime of the police force and is a university lecturer. But the police investigative instinct doesn’t get left at the station and Kate makes for one hell of a retired investigator… and she’s dragging young Tristan with her. Their rapport is great – Tristan is keen to learn from his superior and she’s got a lot to share. Their relationship is kind of like a sensei and pupil with Kate sharing her investigative wisdom on Tristan to the extent he gives it a go on his own… but I’ll say no more on that.

Interspersed between Kate and Tristan’s investigations are more sinister goings-on. The Nine Elms killer has A Fan, one who is determined to continue the gruesome work of their idol with an even more dark conclusion to matters… will Kate prevent this coming into fruition??!

I whizzed through Nine Elms, the pace was brilliant. I couldn’t stop clicking the side of my kindle fast enough. This is a cracking start to the new series from Bryndza. If you loved Erika, I think you’ll love Kate!
