EEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK I can not tell you how excited I am about this double whammy of a cover reveal!!! I may have squealed out loud when M.W. Craven contacted me and asked if I wanted to do the honours!
There may be some of you who will recognise the titles as the two Avison Fluke novels that have previously be out. Well they’ve been re-edited and revamped and I am honoured to be bringing the brand sparkly new covers to you today!
Mr Craven has been even kind enough to write a few words for this auspicious occasion!
I am absolutely thrilled that the Little, Brown imprint, Constable, have acquired the rights to my first novels: Born in a Burial Gown and Body Breaker, and will be republishing them in January next year. Although I’ll remain forever grateful to Darren Laws at Caffeine Nights Publishing for giving me my first break, when the opportunity came to have them republished by the same publisher as Poe & Tilly, complete with new covers and fresh edits, it wasn’t something I could pass up.
I’ve worked hard on the new editions of both novels and have taken on board the lessons learned from working with my editors on the Poe series. They’re now far tighter (both novels are almost 10,000 words shorter) and should be an easier, more pleasant read.
And, as The Puppet Show was originally intended to be the third book in the three-arc Nathaniel Diamond storyline, the eagle-eyed among you may be able to work out who became who in the Poe novels when my agent asked me to write it as a brand new series. Answers on a postcard . . . but not to me.
Rest assured though, there will be at least one more book in the Fluke series (more if my editor and agent get their way . . .) – I’m not finished with Fluke and everyone’s favourite lunatic, Sergeant Matt Towler, just yet . . .
And finally, I’m terribly grateful to Claire Knight for graciously allowing me to piggyback on her awesome blog to reveal the new covers today. Thank you, Claire!
Awwwww shucks Mr Craven!! The pleasure is all mine!! So let’s get this show on the road!!
Who Is M. W. Craven?
M. W. Craven was born in Carlisle but grew up in Newcastle, running away to join the army at the tender age of sixteen. He spent the next ten years travelling the world having fun, leaving in 1995 to complete a degree in social work with specialisms in criminology and substance misuse. Thirty-one years after leaving Cumbria, he returned to take up a probation officer position in Whitehaven, eventually working his way up to chief officer grade. Sixteen years later he took the plunge, accepted redundancy and became a full-time author. He now has entirely different motivations for trying to get inside the minds of criminals . . .
The Puppet Show, the first in a two-book deal he signed with the Little, Brown imprint, Constable in 2017, was released to critical acclaim in hardback this year. It has been sold in numerous foreign territories and the production company Studio Lambert, creators of the award-winning Three Girls, have optioned it for TV. The sequel, Black Summer, follows in June 2019.
W. Craven is married and lives in Carlisle with his wife, Joanne. When he isn’t out with his springer spaniel, or talking nonsense in the pub, he can be found at punk gigs and writing festivals up and down the country.
So you’ve met Mr Craven, time for the books….
Born in a Burial Gown
The first gritty thriller in the Avison Fluke series by M. W. Craven, the acclaimed author of The Puppet Show.
Detective Inspector Avison Fluke is a man on the edge. He has committed a crime to get back to work, concealed a debilitating illness and is about to be made homeless. Just as he thinks things can’t get any worse, the body of a young woman is found buried on a Cumbrian building site.
Shot once in the back of the head, it is a cold, calculated execution. When the post-mortem reveals she has gone to significant expense in disguising her appearance, Fluke knows this is no ordinary murder.
With the help of a psychotic ex-Para, a gangland leader and a woman more interested in maggots than people, Fluke must find out who she was and why she was murdered before he can even think about finding her killer…
The second dark and twisted thriller in the Avison Fluke series by M. W. Craven, the acclaimed author of The Puppet Show.
Investigating how a severed hand ends up on the third green of a Cumbrian golf course is not how Detective Inspector Avison Fluke has planned to spend his Saturday. So when a secret protection unit from London swoops in quoting national security, he’s secretly pleased.
But trouble is never far away. A young woman arrives at his lakeside cabin with a cryptic message: a code known to only a handful of people and it forces Fluke back into the investigation he’s only just been barred from.
In a case that will change his life forever, Fluke immerses himself in a world of New Age travellers, corrupt cops and domestic extremists. Before long he’s alienated his entire team, has been arrested under the Terrorism Act – and has made a pact with the Devil himself. But a voice has called out to him from beyond the grave. And Fluke is only getting started…
Now have those two whet your appetite?? I’ve read the original Body Breaker and loved it so I’m really looking forward to read the new version along with Born In A Burial Gown! Right … now for the main event…
Are you sitting comfortably? On your marks, get set, SCROLL…
