Whooop!!!! It’s Wednesday so we’re half way through the week… And I’ve got a little treat, and when I say little, I mean little! Today I’m bringing you my review of L V Hay’s The Lynmouth Stories as part of the one-day blog blitz.
Many thanks to Rachel Gilbey of Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me on the blog blitz. I downloaded my e-copy of The Lynmouth Stories from Amazon UK for free….. and so can you!!!
Beautiful places hide dark secrets …
Devon’s very own crime writer L.V Hay (The Other Twin, Do No Harm) brings forth three new short stories from her dark mind and poison pen:
- For kidnapped Meg and her young son Danny, In Plain Sight, the remote headland above Lynmouth is not a haven, but hell.
- A summer of fun for Catherine in Killing Me Softly becomes a winter of discontent … and death.
- In Hell And High Water, a last minute holiday for Naomi and baby Tommy becomes a survival situation … But that’s before the village floods.
All taking place out of season when the majority of tourists have gone home, L.V Hay uses her local knowledge to bring forth dark and claustrophic noir she has come to be known for.
What Did I Think?
I do love a quick read, one that you can squeeze in between longer books. The Lynmouth Stories is one of those kind of reads. At a whooping 33 pages long, it’s a short sharp read that you can do with a brew. I polished it off in the space of half an hour.
Each story is different from the next, the only link of the setting of Lynmouth, a seaside town. The stories build rapidly and leave the ending so open for your imagination to wander as to what happens next. Chilling in its own individual way, the three tales rapidly lull you into a false sense of something before expertly throwing you into a freezer cabinet.
I thoroughly enjoyed Ms Hay’s Do No Harm and The Lynmouth Stories is an excellent introduction into the author’s work with similar undertones to make you think.
