Happy Sunday everyone!! I’m seriously thrilled to be welcoming Montana’s finest, Kane and Alton, back to A Knight’s Reads. I’ve loved the previous four books in D.K. Hood’s series and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen after the ending of The Crying Season.
Big thanks to the fabulous Noelle Holten for inviting me on the blog tour and to Bookouture for my e-copy of Where Angels Fear which I received through Netgalley.
As she opened her eyes and took in her surroundings, a feeling of terror ran through her weakened body. She knew exactly where she was. And she knew exactly what was about to happen to her…
When Ella Tate stumbles into Black Rock Falls, her exhausted and bloodied body is a terrifying sight, but not as frightening as the story she has to tell. Ambushed on their way into town when they stopped to help a man by the side of the road, Ella and her friend Sky ran when he pulled a knife on them. But only one of them got away.
As Detective Jenna Alton investigates the case, she looks into the history of missing persons in the town, and uncovers more cases – all young people. All stopped on the same stretch of road into town. All vanished without a trace.
When a distinctive pink sweater belonging to Sky turns up in Black Rock Falls, Jenna follows the trail to a derelict building on the outskirts of town. But she isn’t prepared for what lies behind those doors. Can she stop the killer before more lives are lost?
If you like Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Abbott you’ll love this nail-biting thriller from D.K. Hood.
**Each Kane and Alton book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone**
What did I Think?
“It seemed each new season in Black Rock Falls brought with it a new brand of twisted psychopath.”
I’m back in Black Rock Falls and a similar scene as when I started this journey in Don’t Tell A Soul. It’s snow covered and treacherous driving conditions so it’s no wonder Sky wanted to help a fellow driver stranded in the snow. What ensued was super sinister in just the way I’ve come to love D. K. Hood’s tales from the Montana county. Where has Sky vanished to?!?
I loved the switch in perspective between the Black Rock Falls sheriff team, our nutter on the loose and the victims, helpless in their plight. As I read Sky’s experience, I felt goose bumps creep up my arms from my kindle, spreading through out my body and I don’t think I shook them until the seriously tense ending to the book. There were so many chapters I came out of realising I’d been holding my breath!
I can’t figure why you would risk driving to Black Rock Falls in the middle of the night.” …“Are you aware of how many murders occurred in this county in the last couple of years?…”
That wasn’t the only time I “saw ” Ms Hood’s wicked sense of humour worm it’s way into the tale. Despite its dark sentiment, there is a slight comic nod in the characters’ narrative. Before Kane and Alton arrived in Black Rack Falls, this was a sleepy town off the radar…..
Where Angels Fear is another cracking crime thriller from the mind of Ms Hood and I loved it. This series despite each book being effectively a stand-alone story keeps getting better and better and I for one cannot wait for book 6.
Who Is D K Hood?
I’ve always had a wicked sense of humour and was the kid who told the ghost stories around the campfire. I am lucky to have family all over the world and have spent many vacations in places from Paris France to Montana USA and Australia. I use the wonderful memories from these visits to enhance my stories.
My interest in the development of forensic science to solve crime goes back many years. I enjoy writing crime, mystery and thrillers. With many stories, waiting for me to write I’ll look forward to sharing many spine-tingling stories with you.
D.K. Hood is an active member of International Thriller Writers.
